What Is Organic CBD Oil and Is It Better Than Normal CBD?
Not all CBD oil is created equal. Sad, but true — sourcing matters greatly when it comes to the purity and quality of CBD. Source things from premium hemp and you’ll get a premium CBD product; source from impurity-laden biomass, however, and the final product will be radically different.  How can consumers know the difference, you might ask?  By looking for a CBD brand that’s certified organic, of course. The very best type of CBD oil out there is organic CBD oil, and in this article we’ll be looking at why.  What Is Organic CBD Oil? Organic Hemp Organic Carrier Oils Organic CBD vs. Regular CBD

What Is Organic CBD Oil?

The definition for organic CBD oil is simple. It’s any type of CBD oil that’s been certified organic by the USDA Working this out isn’t as simple as you might think, however, because there are two primary parts to any CBD oil: a hemp extract, and a carrier oil.

Organic Hemp

Good hemp starts with good soil — and organic certification guarantees them both. “USDA certified organic foods are grown and processed according to federal guidelines addressing, among many factors, soil quality, animal raising practices, pest and weed control, and use of additives. Organic producers rely on natural substances and physical, mechanical, or biologically based farming methods to the fullest extent possible,” explains the USDA This is especially important because hemp is what’s called an accumulator plant; it naturally binds to toxins in the air and soil. If an area’s soil health hasn’t been optimized, it probably won’t be able to produce optimal CBD.  Organic hemp has another major strong point: it’s guaranteed to be free from GMOs. “To meet the USDA organic regulations, farmers and processors must show they aren’t using GMOs and that they are protecting their products from contact with prohibited substances from farm to table,” affirms the USDA

Organic Carrier Oils

CBD oils don’t contain just CBD-rich hemp extracts, of course. A large percentage of their contents actually come from something called a carrier oil. For a CBD oil to be fully, certifiably organic, its carrier oil needs to be organic, too!  At Medterra we like to use organic MCT oil; it’s scientifically proven to be one of the most shelf-stable carrier oils out there. MCT oil is also pro-metabolic and anti-microbial. And if CBD oils contain other ingredients, like essential oils, then those need to be certified organic, too.

Organic CBD vs. Regular CBD

While every product is different, most organic CBD oils have several advantages over the normal stuff. They’re less likely to contain residual pesticides and solvents and more likely to be rich in cannabinoids and terpenes.  And while you might think organic CBD would be less affordable, that all depends on where you shop! A growing number of CBD brands are offering that elusive balance of quality and affordability — and at Medterra we couldn’t be more thankful to be one of them.
