So what is MCT Oil?
MCTs or Medium Chain Triglycerides are a type of fat found in in certain oils and dairy products.
What are the Benefits of MCT Oil?
1) Improve Digestion and Nutrient Absorption
MCT oil is beneficial for balancing bacteria in the gut microbiota, which has positive effects on digestive symptoms, energy expenditure, and the ability to absorb vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat. Medium chain fats can help kill a wide range of pathogenic viruses and bacteria that causes digestive issues.
2) Energy Boost and Increased Endurance
Supporters of MCT oil claim it can help boost a person’s energy and improve their endurance when they are working out. A 2009 study found that consuming foods rich in MCTs improved the time that recreational athletes can endure high-intensity exercise.
3) Weight Loss and Improved Weight Management
MCT has a smaller molecular structure and is more solube in water. This makes it easier for your body to absorb and does not require a complicated digestive process. MCT is transported from the small intestine to the liver by the portal vein, which turns into ketone bodies which the muscles use for energy. Since MCT is processed in the liver, there is little left to be stored as fat.
4) Lowered Cholesterol
Other studies find lipid profiles improve on high-fat diets containing coconut oil. Researchers found saturated fat from coconuts was not the culprit that negatively affected cholesterol profile. Instead, the coconut oil's overall effect raised HDL while lowering triglycerides and small LDL cholesterol particles.
5) Lowered Blood Sugar Levels
MCT oil causes sugars, when they are present in the blood circulation, to increase the chances of being stored in muscle tissue as opposed to as fat mass. Another advantage of MCT oil for diabetics is that it can improve the sugar metabolism in the long term as well.
Overall, while there are many online articles and studies about the benefits of MCT Oil, it is still being researched and its potential health benefits need to be proven.
